NDSCS Strategic Goals 2008-2009

1. Enhance the image of NDSCS.

Performance Indicators:

  • Increased enrollment in CTE and transfer.
  • Improved employer satisfaction with graduate skills.
  • Improvement in overall student satisfaction (final three questions of survey).
  • Improved employee satisfaction (scores on CQS).
  • Sustain workforce training satisfaction and employee, employer and overall responsiveness and college relations.

Responsibility: Director of College Relations and Marketing, AQIP Strategy Team

Steps:

  • Each department determines how they can enhance the image of NDSCS and develops and implements a plan.
  • NDSCS Image Campaign is developed and implemented.
  • Each academic department identifies their market niche.
  • Training developed and delivered on how to develop industry/business partnerships.
  • Career and technical education promotional plan developed.
  • Integrate marketing and recruitment into a comprehensive plan.

2. Enhance student learning and success.

Performance Indicators:

  • Student graduation and retention rates sustained or improved.
  • Student performance on nationally recognized exams is sustained or improved.
  • Student performance on licensure pass rates for first time testers is sustained and/or improved.
  • FYE Initiative is implemented in all programs.
  • Alumni survey demonstrates satisfaction with student preparation.
  • Improved employer satisfaction with graduate skills.

Responsibility: VP for Academic and Student Affairs, Associate Vice-President for Institutional Effectiveness

Steps:

  • Academic programs develop plan to implement FYE.
  • Intake advising model is developed.
  • Student learning/Academic success is documented in assessment plans.
  • Support areas develop assessment plans that support student learning and development to improve retention and graduation rates.
  • Academic programs align curriculum with current business/industry standards using standard research and analysis methods such as DACUM, surveys, advisory committees, ACT work keys, etc.
 

3. Improve effectiveness and efficiency of college systems and processes.

Performance Indicators:

  • NDSCS E-folio review demonstrates improvement in key processes.
  • Overall score in CQS on employee satisfaction improves (equals NDUS score).
  • Communication workshops offered to all NDSCS employees.
  • Gap scores in areas of collaboration, communication, and reward and recognition improve on CQS.
 

Responsibility: AQIP Strategy Team, President’s Staff

Steps:

  • NDSCS Quality Improvement Plan is implemented.
  • Identify key processes for improvement using NDSCS e-folio.
  • Develop methods to document key processes.
  • Identify NDSCS Performance Indicators.
 

4. Provide state-of-the art technology for students and staff.

Performance Indicator:

  • CIO position is filled.
  • College-wide Technology Plan is developed.
  • IT partnership/sharing with NDSU is enhanced.
  • Educational programming continues to be more accessible through use of technology and non-traditional delivery methods.
  • Non-credit activity increases in numbers of individuals and businesses served.
 

Responsibility: CIO and Dean of Extended Learning

Steps:

  • CIO position description developed, position advertised and accepted.
  • Departments determine future technology needs.
  • CIO coordinates ad-hoc committee to develop college-wide Technology Plan.
  • IT Partnership with NDSU is further explored and developed.
  • Additional courses/programs for non-traditional delivery are identified and offered.
  • Training in technology utilization for faculty and staff.
 

5. Sustain financial stability.

Performance Indicator:

  • New opportunities for state funding are secured.
  • Total resources of the college are reallocated to support the priorities of NDSCS.
  • Funding sources are expanded.
  • Strategies to increase on-campus enrollment developed and implemented.
  • On-campus enrollment increases.
  • New partnerships developed.
  • Continue growth patterns in Distance Education (credit and non-credit).
  • Sustain financial ratios.
 

Responsibility: President, Alumni Foundation Development Director

Steps:

  • State funding initiatives are explored and appropriate opportunities are pursued.
  • Priority initiatives of NDSCS are identified.
  • Develop methods to increase contributed funding through grants, production accounts, private gifts, partnerships, etc.
  • Identify occupational demand and target marketing.
  • Develop major academic partnerships with business and industry.
 

AQIP Action Projects 2008-09

1. Develop and implement an NDSCS image campaign. (2008-2010)

Performance Indicator: Improvement in employee and student satisfaction. Student retention rates improve. Increase in enrollment and building usage (occupancy rates), NDSCS Foundation Endowment increases.

Responsibility: AQIP Strategy Team, Director of College Relations and Marketing

Steps:

  • Each department determines how they can enhance the image of their program or area.
  • Each department develops and implements a plan to enhance their image.
  • NDSCS recognizes and rewards an innovative approach to enhancing the NDSCS image.
  • Institutional image plan developed and implemented.
 

2. Implement First Year Experience course and Intake Advising Model. (2007-09)

Performance Indicator: Monitor the following performance measures: student satisfaction with FYE course, student satisfaction with advising, retention data, number of withdrawals fall semester in first six weeks compared to previous years.

Responsibility: Dean of Technologies and Services Division, Dean of Arts, Science and Business Division

Steps:

  • Create a job description and hire a new retention coordinator who will begin employment on July 1, 2008. Responsibilities include the First Year Experience initiative and entry level advisement.
  • Move forward on the three-year phased in FYE course initiative beginning fall 2008.
  • Enhance academic advising by providing in-service training to existing faculty on the revised Handbook for Academic Advising.
  • Integrate intake advising (entry level) into our current advising model.
 

3. Develop and Implement an NDSCS Quality Program Initiative. (2007-June 2009)

Performance Indicator: Improve in employee satisfaction scores, student satisfaction scores, and communication scores.

Responsibility: Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, AQIP Strategy Team

Steps:

  • Build job description and hire individual.
  • Prepare an education/training plan.
  • Develop a training budget for two years.
  • Schedule training.
  • Compile reports and analysis of training.
  • Design promotional letters, brochures and /or advertisements for training programs.
  • Organize a quality resource center.
  • Analyze results of Campus Quality Survey conducted in September 2008.
  • Develop appropriate action based on CQS scores.
