The Financial Aid office can assist you with exploring education funding options such as loans, grants, scholarships and work study.

State Support Covers Nearly 2/3 of Cost
NDSCS is a "state supported" college. This state support covers about 2/3 of all instructional costs to the student and is really the largest form of "financial support" to all students. The students are responsible for about 1/3 of their over-all instructional costs. This is also referred to as their "tuition". To help the students pay for their tuition plus fees, room, board, books, supplies and other costs, students and/or parents receive financial aid.

Financial Aid for 91 Percent of Students
The NDSCS Financial Aid office currently awards and/or monitors fourteen million a year in financial aid. In general terms, the over all aid can be broken down approximately as follows: 62 percent loans, 27 percent grants, 4 percent on campus employment and 7 percent scholarships. In most cases the students receive a package of aid including a mixture of grants and loans and possibly a scholarship and/or some work study. Loans must be repaid. Grants and scholarships normally do not have to be repaid.

Financial Aid Programs
Most of the aid awarded at NDSCS comes from the federal government. The programs include the Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), State Incentive Grant, Direct Loans, Perkins Loan and Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). NDSCS also offers the Wells Fargo Collegiate Loan, Bank of North Dakota Deal Loan, Minnesota Self Loan and a fairly large private loan program, the Madge Vertin Loan Program. NDSCS is also involved with many other educational funding programs including Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Vocational Rehabilitation with several states, Vets Rehab., BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs), National Guard, and other third-party funding sources. For more information on financing education at NDSCS, please contact the NDSCS Financial Aid office. Due to the very technical nature of the federal programs, NDSCS suggests that students stop in or call to receive the best answers to their questions.
