| It is the express written policy of NDSCS to be free of discrimination due to race, creed, age, gender, sexual orientation or economic status. | NDSCS is an open information campus. |
| "The Clery Amendment" |
| On April 5, 1986, Jeanne Clery, a student at Lehigh University was raped and murdered in her residence hall room. The Clerys, in memory of their daughter, have led the charge to assure that college campuses accurately report crime statistics on campus and in the areas immediately adjacent to the campus. |
| Crime statistics are available for the past three calendar years per federal law. |

| Safety and Security |
| Students need to take precautions to ensure their safety, well-being and property. NDSCS encourages students to: |
| • Keep rooms locked; and |
| • Keep book bags, laptops, in their possessions in a safe place. |
| • The college is not responsible for lost, stolen or vandalized personal property. |
| • It is recommended students have insurance coverage either through their own or their parents' homeowners insurance or to purchase renters' insurance. |

| Colleges are allowed to release only minimal information without a student’s written permission. |
| The following categories of information have been designated by NDSCS as information that may be released upon request: |
| • Name, campus address, and local phone, home town, and program; |
| • Date of birth; |
| • Sex and marital status; |
| • Name and address of parents or guardians; |
| • Academic field of study; |
| • Classification as freshman or sophomore; |
| • Participation in officially recognized activities and sports; |
| • Height and weight of members of athletic teams; |
| • Dates of attendance; |
| • Degrees and awards received; and |
| • Most recent previous educational institution attended. |

| If a student does not want his or her information printed and distributed, the student must notify enrollment services or must complete these following steps: |
| To restrict directory information: |
| 1. Go the www.ndscs.edu |
| 2. Select the CampusConnection portal. |
| 3. Sign on using your User ID and password. |
| 4. Select Student Self Service under the Enterprise Menu on the left. |
| 5. Select Personal Portfolio. |
| 6. Under Security Settings, select FERPA/Directory Restrictions. |
| 7. Select Edit FERPA/Directory Restrictions. |
| If you would like to receive information regarding your student, for example, what your student owes or what your student’s grades are, your student will need to complete the following form FERPA forms and return the completed form to Haverty Hall 105/106. |

| Basic Regulations of Conduct |
| NDSCS has a basic code of conduct which faculty, staff and students will follow. A Basic Code of Conduct for students can be found in the college catalog and the Student Handbook. |

| NDSCS asks all students to: |
| • Treat everyone with dignity and respect; |
| • Attend class; |
| • Complete their work in a timely fashion; and |
| • Take care of themselves. |

| NDSCS, in compliance with state and federal regulations, will not tolerate sexual harassment of its students by anyone, including supervisors, faculty, customers, employees, visitors or other students. |

| Student Sexual Assault Policy |

| A goal of NDSCS is to create a campus community free from interpersonal abuse, which includes sexual assault. NDSCS commits its resources to the following two-fold process: |
| 1. To provide crisis intervention and judicial response for victims and alleged offenders; and |
| 2. To educate and promote discussion on interpersonal abuse and violence. |

| |
| Purpose: |
| 1. Respond sensitively to the needs of the individual. |
| 2. Respond sensitively to the needs of the student body, staff and affected families during a crisis situation. |
| 3. Alert president and Executive Team of the crisis. |
| 4. Establish a clear and effective method of communication to staff, students and parents concerning events taking place and the procedure to manage a crisis. |
| 5. Minimize the impact of a crisis on the educational process. |

| If a student is caught using alcohol in residence halls or on campus property: |
| • Violation No.1 - $100 fine with refund of $50 if there is no further violation. |
| • Violation No.2 - $100 fine, refund option eliminated, parental notification. |
| • Violation No.3 - Eviction from college housing with option for suspension from school. |
| |
| Controlled Substance Policy |
| If a student is caught using or in possession of a controlled substance in residence halls or on campus property, a student will face $100 campus fine and referral to civil authorities. |

| Smoking on Campus |
| By the State Board of Higher Education policy, smoking is not permitted in any buildings other than certain residence hall room, provided the students do not live in a smoke-free building or on a smoke-free floor. |
| NDSCS policy is that there is no tobacco use permitted within 15 feet of any building entrance. |
