Peer Tutor and Peer Assistant Program

Spring 2008 ASC Lab/Peer Tutoring Schedule - pdf
What are Peer Tutors and Peer Assistants?
Peer tutors and peer assistants are available for students needing academic support. Peer tutors facilitate small study groups at the Academic Services Center. Tutors review course content, help fellow students with test preparation, and promote good study skills.
A peer tutor must be willing to set aside at least one to two hours per week to tutor. There is flexibility in scheduling these sessions. It is important that the times work out well for the tutor as well as for interested students. A short training session is conducted which counts toward your tutoring hours. Study group times and locations are posted in the Academic Services Center hallway. Instructors are also notified that a study group has been established so that others in class can attend.
Peer assistants serve many functions. Some serve as notetakers for students with disabilities or assist with recording textbooks. On occasion, peer assistants serve as mentors or study partners for students in need.

How do I request a Peer Tutor or Peer Assistant?
Students that feel they need extra help studying for a course can request assistance by filling out the request for study assistance form and returning it to the Peer Tutor and Peer Assistant Coordinator.
Students should be aware that based on this request, a search for a peer study group leader will be conducted and a study group established. Study group leaders give of their time as a service to students and North Dakota State College of Science. Students should make every effort to attend and participate in these study sessions to ensure continuation of the study group.

How can I join a study group?
There are several study groups established each semester. The study group schedule may change so check the schedule regularly. Any student may join a study group that has been established. If there isn't a study group set up for a class you would like help in, please fill out the request for study assistance form and return it to the Peer Tutor and Peer Assistant Coordinator.
