| Course Description: |
| College Writing Prep is a writing course designed to prepare students for college composition classes. |
| |
| Required Text and Materials: |
| • Anker, Susan. Real Essays with Readings. Boston: Bedford or St. Martin's, 2003; |
| • Folder; |
| • Paper; |
| • Pens, Pencils; and |
| • Computer disk(s). |
| |
| Course Policies: |
| • Be on time; and |
| • Attendance is required because almost all the work is done in class; |
| • All assignments must be completed satisfactorily to receive a passing grade; and |
| • Utilize class time wisely to complete all assignments. |
| |
| Goals: |
| • Write clear and correct sentences; |
| • Use standard punctuation, capitalization and spelling; |
| • Demonstrate understanding of subject-verb agreement; |
| • Be able to correct sentence fragments and run-on sentences; |
| • Focus on a writing topic |
| • Organize and formulate an idea in writing; |
| • State thesis statements clearly; |
| • Write topic sentences and supporting details; |
| • Identify purpose and audience; |
| • Demonstrate appropriate and varied word choice; and |
| • Proofread paragraphs and essays. |

| Expected Student Contributions: |
| • Attend classes; |
| • Complete assignments; |
| • Work to your best ability; |
| • Demonstrate the ability to write focused paragraphs and essays in various styles; |
| • Improve writing skills; and |
| • Attend conferences with the instructor when scheduled. |
