WAHPETON, N.D. – (February 2, 2009) – The Williston State College Lady Tetons used a spurt in the beginning of the second half to pull away from the North Dakota State College of Science Lady Wildcats 81-63 Saturday afternoon in the Ed Werre Arena at the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center.
Dawnelle Askelson led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. She was also 2-4 from three, and grabbed four rebounds and two steals. Natalie Giese scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Brittany Mayclin added nine points as well as four rebounds and four assists. Shayla Johnson led the team with three steals, while Ashlynn Fuller added two to the tally. For the Lady Tetons, Amber Adams scored 25 points, including 9-11 from the line.
For the game, NDSCS shot 43% from the field. They were 3-15 from three, while hitting 16-21 from the line for 76%. NDSCS was out-rebounded 39-30 on the day, including 14-7 on offensive boards. WSC shot 48% from the field, including 7-19 from three. They were also 16-24 from the line for the day. Both teams struggled in taking care of the ball, as they combined for 44 turnovers.
NDSCS dropped to 13-10 for the year and 5-4 in Mon-Dak Conference play. The Lady Wildcats will hit the road next weekend with a trip to Montana. On Saturday they will play at Miles Community College and Dawson Community College on Sunday.
