WAHPETON, N.D. – (February 10, 2009) – The North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) women’s basketball team fell 65-59 to Miles Community College on Saturday afternoon. The game featured 14 lead changes and 12 ties, but it was 21-19 Miles at the half.
Brittany Mayclin led the Lady Wildcat attack with 15 points and four rebounds. Alyssa Larson scored 12 points on 6-9 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was Ashlynn Fuller with 10 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Dawnelle Askelson led the team with 10 rebounds and three steals. Megan Groen added three steals and five assists as well. Shannon Hildreth and Kristen Brady led the Lady Pioneers with 17 points apiece. Hildreth also had 10 boards.
NDSCS held MCC to 21% shooting in the first half, including 3-12 from three. The Lady Pioneers were 6-9 from the line. NDSCS shot 32% from the field in half number one, including 1-8 from three. They only had the chance to shoot two free throws, which helped Miles to the lead.
NDSCS gained the lead in the second half with about five minutes to go, and would have had a chance to win it with five seconds left and the score tied at 54. Fuller hit the front end of two free throws and after a Miles timeout missed the second attempt. In the extra frame the Lady Pioneers outscored NDSCS 11-5 en route to the win.
For the game, NDSCS shot 37%, including 5-19 from three; they were also 4-10 from the line. Miles shot 38% for the game, while hitting on five of 23 point attempts. Miles had a huge advantage from the line, however, hitting 18-28. Overall fouls were 22-13 in Miles’ favor.
NDSCS fell to 13-11 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
