Women’s Basketball Falls in Finale

WAHPETON, N.D. – The North Dakota State College of Science Lady Wildcats fell behind early before finally falling to the Lake Region State Lady Royals, 69-39 on Wednesday evening.

The Lady Royals used a run midway through the first half to break the game open en route to holding a 34-16 lead after one half. Neither team shot extremely well, the Lady Royals shot 41%, including 2-7 from three. The Lady Wildcats finished 6-20 in the half, and 0-2 from three. The big difference was free-throws as LRSC used a 10-4 advantage at the line to help their lead.

In the second half, both teams shot better but it wasn’t enough. Another run halfway through the second half put the game out of reach for NDSCS. In the second half NDSCS shot 35%, including 2-4 from three. LRSC shot 52% from the field and 2-5 from three. Overall LRSC shot 46% for the game, while NDSCS was at 33%. There was a big difference in free-throws where the Lady Wildcats were 5-8 compared to the Lady Royals going 15-25.

Leading the Lady Wildcats was Ashlynn Fuller with eight points and four rebounds. Cristin Hasse added seven points and four rebounds. Leading Lake Region was Kallie Erickson with 24 points and five boards. Kate Sharkova added six points and a game high 14 rebounds.

NDSCS dropped to 15-14 on the season and 7-7 in Mon-Dak play. They hit the road on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Williston to face Williston State College in the semi-finals of the Region XIII Tournament.
