HUTCHINSON, KAN.—(March 19, 2009)—Despite the strong play, the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcat men of Wahpeton, N.D., came up short against Lamar Community College 77-64 at the NJCAA Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. In what was a must-win game to advance to play for fifth place honors, the NDSCS Wildcats saw their one point lead vanish late in the game as Lamar went on a 16-3 run that started at the 6:09 mark.
From the opening tip, the Wildcats took an early 6 point lead, but neither team was able to sustain a big run. At the half, the Wildcats went into the locker room down one point 31-30. Ridge McKeither (Danville, Va.) was the game's leading scorer with 23 points and leading rebounder with 17 rebounds. James Livingston (Trenton, N.J.) was the second leading scorer for the Wildcats with 17 points.
In Coach Scott Schumacher's inaugural year as head coach, the NDSCS Wildcats finished the season with an impressive 31-4 record, clinched the Mon-Dak Conference title with a 13-1 record and became both the Region XIII Champions and the District XI Champions.
NDSCS placed three players on the All Mon-Dak Conference Team as James Livingston (Trenton, N.J.) and Maurice Foster (New Orleans, La.) took First-Team Honors and Ridge McKeither was the Conference MVP. Region XIII All-Tournament honors went to John Kramer (Wahpeton, N.D.) and Ridge McKeither, while James Livingston was Tournament MVP.
NDSCS is a two-year, comprehensive, residential college with its main campus located in Wahpeton, N.D., and a second site, referred to as the Skills and Technology Training Center, located in Fargo, N.D. NDSCS offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in over 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as the liberal arts. The college also offers a variety of Distance Education courses.
Approximately 98% of graduates from its technical programs find jobs in their chosen fields.
Unlike most two-year colleges, NDSCS boasts a university atmosphere for its students, complete with residence halls, 35 affiliated clubs and organizations, music groups, theater productions, intercollegiate athletics, intramural athletics, and numerous social activities.
