Volleyball downs BSC in first round of regional tourney

BISMARCK, N.D. – (October 30, 2009) – The old adage, “it is hard to beat a team three times,” rang true on Thursday night, when the North Dakota State College of Science volleyball team knocked off Bismarck State College 3-1 in the first round of the Region XIII Tournament held in Bismarck. Bismarck had been victorious against the Lady Wildcats in the previous two meetings.

The scores of the match were, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22. Kacie Reardon and Taylor Hart led the team with 10 kills each, while Jordan Rustad added nine. Brittany Olson and Sara Opp were also solid, adding eight and seven kills, respectively. Libby Augedahl led the team in digs with 32, while Hart added 17 and Reardon 16. Also in double figures were Kayla Dougherty and Sabrina Bain with 13 each. Dougherty also led with 35 assists.  The net defense was strong as Rustad, Olson and Reardon combined for 12 blocks.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 21-7 on the year. NDSCS will now play Williston State College in the semifinals.
