Wildcats volleyball wins Region XIII title

WAHPETON, N.D. – (November 2, 2009) – The North Dakota State College of Science volleyball team won their second round match against Williston State College and split two matches with Bismarck State College to take home the Region XIII tournament championship.

NDSCS defeated Williston on Friday afternoon, 32-30, 25-21, 25-13 to advance to the Championship round on Saturday. Taylor Hart had 12 kills and 17 digs to lead the way, while Kayla Dougherty led with 30 assists.

The Lady Wildcats fell in the first championship match, but came back to win the second match to take home the trophy. Libby Augedahl led the team defense with 71 digs total in the two matches. Hart had 17 kills and 44 digs to finish off her All-Tournament campaign. Jordan Rustad solidified her All-Tournament pick with a combined 27 kills in the final two matches.  Dougherty finished with 90 total assists in two Saturday matches.

For the Wildcats, Taylor Hart and Jordan Rustad were named to the All-Tournament team, while head coach Jane Passa once again took home the Coach of the Year Award.

NDSCS will now face Region IX winner, North Platte College in a best of three series. It is scheduled to begin Friday, and if necessary will continue Saturday. NDSCS will be 23-8 going into the series, while North Platte is 18-13.

NDSCS is a two-year, comprehensive, residential college with its main campus located in Wahpeton, N.D., and a second site, referred to as the Skills and Technology Training Center, located in Fargo, N.D.  NDSCS offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in over 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as the liberal arts.
