Released: 11/04/2009

WAHPETON, N.D. – (November 3, 2009) – The North Dakota State College of Science football team will participate in the Graphic Edge Bowl on November 22, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. This will be their first appearance since 2005 in a Bowl game. This week will complete step one towards that game. NDSCS will play in the first round of the playoffs at Ellsworth Community College at noon on Saturday.

Two weeks ago, NDSCS travelled to ECC and fell 10-7 in a game that was marred by muddy conditions caused by a continuous rainfall in Iowa Falls. After the loss, the Wildcats needed a win against Iowa Central in similar field conditions. NDSCS was up for the challenge, winning 27-0.

Ellsworth will come into the game ranked 17th in the latest NJCAA Poll. They are 6-3 overall, and finished first in the MFC at 6-2. They have the second ranked offense in points scored with 348. NDSCS is the fourth ranked offense in the conference; however they are the top ranked defense, being the only team to give up less than 200 points for the season. Both teams are led by preseason All-Americans. For the Panthers’ offense it is quarterback Tirrell Rennie, for the Wildcats’ defense it is linebacker Derek Earls. Both players are expected to move on to prominent NCAA BCS schools. Earls has made his decision, committing to the University of Arizona, while Rennie is rumored to be considering schools such as Illinois and Iowa State.

The winner of Saturday’s game will play in the feature game on November 22 at the UNI Dome on the Northern Iowa campus. The loser will play in the preliminary game of the Graphic Edge Bowl.

NDSCS is a two-year, comprehensive, residential college with its main campus located in Wahpeton, N.D., and a second site, referred to as the Skills and Technology Training Center, located in Fargo, N.D.  NDSCS offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in over 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as the liberal arts.
