Volleyball to host North Platte in district matchup

WAHPETON, N.D. – (November 4, 2009) – Head Coach Jane Passa’s North Dakota State College of Science volleyball team will be hosting Region IX representative North Platte Community College for the opportunity to go to the national tournament.

NDSCS finished 23-8 on the season, and finished second in the Mon-Dak Conference. They boast three All-Conference players in Sara Opp, Taylor Hart, and Libby Augedahl. Hart and Jordan Rustad were also named to the All-Tournament team at the Region XIII tournament.  Coach Passa was named the Region Coach of the Year and also garnered her 300th victory as a NJCAA head coach this season.

North Platte Community College, located in North Platte, Neb., is currently 25-14 and ranked 18th in the latest NJCAA rankings. They defeated Central Community College to take the Region IX crown. Sally Thalken, who is in her 29th year of coaching, earned the 800th win of her career when her team defeated McCook Community College. She is also a member of the NJCAA Hall of Fame.

The right to advance to the national tournament will be decided by a best-of-three series of matches this weekend at the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center on the NDSCS campus. The first match of the series is scheduled for Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. The second match will be played Saturday morning at 11 a.m. If a third match is necessary, it will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second match.

NDSCS is a two-year, comprehensive, residential college with its main campus located in Wahpeton, N.D., and a second site, referred to as the Skills and Technology Training Center, located in Fargo, N.D.  NDSCS offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in over 80 academic options in traditional career and technical studies as well as the liberal arts. The college also offers a variety of Distance Education courses. Approximately 95% of graduates from its technical programs find jobs in their chosen fields.
