| North Dakota State College of Science policy prohibits the use or abuse of chemicals on the campus and in the residence halls. This policy is distributed to every incoming student, staff and faculty member and information is presented during the orientation at the start of each semester. | |
| Students who receive a first time alcohol violation on campus are referred to the Counseling Office to complete the online assessment entitled: Online E-Chug Test program and receive appropriate counseling and follow up. | |
| Student life or campus police refers every student who commits a second violation of the campus alcohol policy to the counseling services director. The counselor confidentially consults with the student regarding their usage history, may recommend further evaluation, and educates them about the risks of abusing alcohol via an interactive CD entitled Under the Influence. | |
| An Addictions and Alternatives class is offered Spring Semester to inform and educate students about the history of addiction in the United States and the part addiction plays in our lives. Healthy lifestyle alternatives are presented as an alternative way of living. | |
| In 1999, 2001, and 2003, the CORE Survey was administered to students in an attempt to build a foundation for a planned campaign to combat binge drinking. On campus, an ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) Task Force was formed in 2006 to offer substance abuse prevention. A campaign is currently being formulated with the North Dakota Higher Education Consortium for Substance Abuse Prevention Web site, of which NDSCS is an active member. | |
