The North Dakota State College of Science Animal Science program provides both classroom and hands-on instruction to individuals interested in an animal science related career. This NDSCS program is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to return to family livestock operations, seek employment selling livestock products or work for a livestock production operation.
The program focuses on instruction in nutrition, management systems, animal reproduction, health and grazing systems relative to beef, sheep, swine, dairy and equine species.
A.A.S. Degree
Upon successful completion of the required courses, students will be awarded an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Agriculture.
Types of Classes
Students will take courses on topics such as introduction to animal science, livestock production, feeds and feeding, animal health and electives relative to their career choice. In addition, students will chose one of the following tracks: Farm Management (designed for students who wish to return to their family livestock operation), Sales (designed for students seeking employment selling livestock products or equipment), or Animal Production (designed for students who seek employment in a livestock production operation). Students also need to complete general coursework to satisfy the requirements for the A.A.S. degree.
A 400-hour internship related to the student's career goal is required between the first and second year of this program.

Employment areas may include: Livestock manager Salesperson of livestock nutritional products, supplies and/or equipment Animal production employee Feedlot manager Livestock buyer.
