Graduates of the Administrative Assistant program will be prepared with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to execute diversified responsibilities required in an office setting. Students will attain core skills in the areas of customer service, technology, oral and written communication, time management and resource management.
The program provides students with skills in Microsoft Office, records management, electronic time management applications, accounting, human resource management and office procedures. All students must complete a 140-hour internship experience to gain valuable on-the-job training prior to graduating.
Typical employment opportunities may include positions in banks and financial institutions, insurance agencies, real estate offices, educational institutions, government agencies, medical facilities and legal offices.
*A minimum keyboarding competency of 45 corrected wpm (in a five-minute timing) is required before a student may be allowed to register for BOTE 152, Keyboarding II. If not met, BOTE 148 will be required.
A grade of ‘C’ or above must be achieved in all BOTE courses in order to advance in the program.
**A cumulative GPA of 2.3 is a pre-requisite for BOTE 297.

The applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent. Helpful preparation for this program is a variety of courses in communications, keyboarding speed and accuracy, human relations, computer literacy and English.
Upon successful completion of the required courses, students will be awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree in Office Administration with an emphasis in Administrative Assistant.
While students are fully employable upon completion of this program, they may wish to continue their education by returning for the Administrative Office Management third-year option.
