NDSCS College Catalog

Paralegal

This program is available to students whose career goal is to be a paralegal. The Paralegal transfer curriculum plan at NDSCS includes the freshman and sophomore core courses in English and humanities, math, sciences, social and behavioral sciences and wellness courses. These core courses are required by all colleges and universities for students seeking a bachelor’s degree. An Associate in Arts degree is awarded upon completion of the program, and the student can transfer to most four-year colleges and universities as a junior.

Paralegals are legal assistants who help attorneys prepare for closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings. They investigate, research and draft pleadings, motions, mortgages, trust instruments, deeds, contracts and separation agreements on behalf of law firms, corporations and government agencies. The paralegal career field is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Private law firms will continue to be the largest employer of paralegals.

The Paralegal transfer curriculum plan meets the Liberal Arts Program Purposes list.
