The Building Construction Technology curriculum is designed to provide hands-on building experiences as well as the knowledge and attitudes necessary for advancement on the job. Communication skills, human relations and other general education courses are an integral part of the program and are considered vital to the success of the student.
Program Purposes
To prepare the necessary on-site and hands-on training to develop a multi-skilled worker who can work in residential and light commercial construction.
To provide students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to function on the construction site with the potential to advance into supervisory positions in the building industry.
To develop students' abilities in human relations, communications, and other aspects of general education.
To provide students with the educational foundation necessary to pursue additional degrees.
Career Opportunities
Students enrolled in the Building Construction Technology program can find employment with builders, general contractors and subcontractors. The program will give students a much broader perspective of a contractor's role than in traditional construction programs. Activities require creative problem solving, critical thinking and decision making. The program has a realistic setting, simulating actual procedures used in the contracting business. The intent of the program is to produce a student with general knowledge and skills necessary to enter the residential or light commercial building industry at an entry level position with the potential for advancement into supervisory and management positions.
