BOTE 297 Office Administration Internship
Office Administration Internship is an educational experience in which students enrolled, traditional and online, in a two-year Office Administration program participate in volunteer or paid work experiences. Previous work experiences may not be substituted for this requirement nor may a current work site. All students are required to complete 140 hours of supervised work at a site approved by the internship coordinator. The internship will help clarify personal goals, use classroom theory in a practical job experience and reinforce and expand classroom learning. The majority of students will intern in the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area. Students must have a 2.3 GPA in order to apply and complete the internship experience. Students wishing to enroll in this course must contact the coordinator prior to registration.
Office Administration Internship is a course designed to bridge the gap between theory learned in the classroom and the actual work experience gained on the job. The course is actual work experience.
As part of the internship process, students will complete a job application, a letter of application, and a resume. The supervisor at the training site will interview and select the intern for his/her particular business.

The NDSCS Allied Health Center has recently acquired a new intern. Ashley Fouhy began her internship Spring Semester to complete her degree in Office Administration with an emphasis in Administrative Assistant. This internship consists of 140 hours of on the job training to tie classroom work with actual work experience.
The students that intern at the Allied Health Center are supervised by Patti Wells, Administrative Assistant for the Allied Health Programs. The internship experience is coordinated by Kathy Ringdahl, Associate Professor.
To qualify for internship the student must have a 2.3 grade point average. The student must also go through an application and interview process with more than one site. Ashley selected the Allied Health because this site will give her an opportunity to do a variety of different office duties such as answering phones and greeting customers, typing correspondence with different computer software, arranging meetings, taking minutes, delivering various items to the Copy Center, and becoming acquainted with a variety of office personnel on a daily basis. She worked with various professors on projects such as Skills USA and Advisory Committees. She also took classes on web design so she could gain experience in that field.
This is Ashley’s third year of college, she attended Minot State University where she took general courses. She then picked NDSCS because of the small size and the internship that the Office Administration degree offers. Most schools do not offer an internship, so this opportunity of getting hands on experience intrigued her.
Ashley is originally from Scobey, Montana. She has also been employed as a work-study in the English department for the two years she attended NDSCS. After Ashley gradates, she plans to move to Grand Forks, ND to seek employment in the administrative assistant field.
