The North Dakota State College of Science is committed to student success and places significant importance on preparation for college classes. Placement of students into courses that closely match their abilities will result in a greater likelihood that students will be successful in pursuing and completing their educational goals.
The North Dakota University System requires all applicants under age 25 to submit ACT or SAT scores to Enrollment Services. Exemptions from this requirement include students who are:
Students need an ACT score of 18 or higher for English and reading and 20 or higher for Math. If these scores are not met, COMPASS tests are needed.
Students over age 25 who have not had college English or College Algebra and who have no ACT score meeting the above requirements will take a COMPASS placement test for the appropriate course required.
Applicants who are unable to meet the high school graduation or G.E.D. requirements may aply for consideration as special students and may be admitted on a probationary basis if the Admission Committee approves.
The COMPASS test is a computerized test which needs to be taken at an approved COMPASS test site. To obtain information on an approved COMPASS test site in your region, contact Distance Education at 1-800-342-4325, ext 3-2347 or email or ACT at 1-800-645-1992. COMPASS tests results need to be sent to NDSCS Enrollment Services.
Minimum ACT scores are listed below. For a more complete listing, go to the Strategic Effectiveness site and review the placement guidelines document.
Students scoring below the minimum required score will need to take the COMPASS assessment to determine appropriate course placement. Students may need to take developmental/preparatory courses to enhance skills that test below the minimum requirement for entry-level into regular college classes.
