Section 106 - Staff Probationary Period  
   
Applies to: Broadbanded Staff and Officers of the Institution  
Purpose: To detail the probationary period for new employees assigned to the Broadband System and the termination requirements during a probationary period.
Policy:
New employees, who are assigned to the Broadband System are on a probationary status for the first six months of College Service, which may be extended for cause. During such period, the employee may be terminated with one week's notice with no right to appeal. One week's pay may be given in lieu of notice. Employees who elect to resign during the probationary period are required to give one week's notice.
Extension of the original probationary period for a specific period of time, not to exceed six months may be recommended by the supervisor or department head to the Director of Human Resources. The reasons for extension shall be detailed on a completed employee evaluation form signed by the supervisor and the employee, with a copy given to the employee.
New employees who are designated by the President as Officers of the Institution may have a period of observation. This period of observation should be decided upon at the time of hire.
 
Procedure: The period of observation dates will be indicated on the employee's letter of notification.
