Career Services
The function of the Career Services office is to inform students about available career opportunities and direct placement activities among employers, students and college staff. The Career Services office does not guarantee placement. Employment depends upon records, initiative and recommendations, as well as state, regional and national economic conditions. The director maintains constant contact with business and industry in order to be aware of current employment needs and opportunities. Many companies send representatives to the campus for personal interviews. Other employment opportunities are handled by letter, telephone, Internet, e-mail, fax or interviews at the employer’s place of business.
Students’ credentials are on file in the Career Services office for those students that register with our office. The quality of the credentials is the student’s responsibility. Résumé and cover letter services are available.
A placement library is available online to locate employer and business information. Additionally, numerous job fairs are organized.
Services to alumni, as well as students, are available and annual placement reports are available upon request. The Career Services office also provides information about part-time and full-time off-campus employment in the Wahpeton and Breckenridge communities.
The Career Services office also coordinates Cooperative Education. This provides students with the opportunity to apply their classroom learning in the work environment and, in some cases, may open the door to full-time employment following graduation.
Cooperative Education is a paid work experience. Co-op students work as regular part-time or full-time employees, earning academic credit for knowledge and skills acquired for work performed on the job. Some full-time co-op students work locally, but most are placed outside of the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area. Students choosing to combine classroom study with part-time cooperative education work are usually employed in the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area. Generally only those students who have successfully completed two semesters of course work are eligible. Students can earn from two to five credits per semester; credits are based on the number of hours worked with a minimum of 162 hours at a worksite required for one semester credit.
Students may participate in a cooperative education work experience two times while enrolled in a particular program, but cannot exceed five credits in each program.
The Career Services office is located in Haverty Hall, Room 105/106. For information, call (701) 671-2258.
