Academic Warning, Probation, Suspension and Re-Admission Policy
The academic warning, probation and suspension policy is designed to give a student every possible opportunity to be successful in a college program.
The student is expected to maintain the following cumulative grade-point average:

Attempted Credits Institutional GPA
09-16.........................................1.50
17-33.........................................1.75
34-50.........................................1.85
51+............................................2.00
Academic Warning - Failure to maintain the indicated grade point average will result in the student being placed on academic warning. Students and their advisors are notified in writing that the quality of the student’s work has fallen below acceptable standards and should this unsatisfactory condition continue during the subsequent semester, the student may be placed on academic probation. Students are encouraged to contact their advisor for academic assistance.
Academic Probation - After one semester on academic warning, students may be placed on academic probation if their cumulative grade-point averages are not within the limits previously stated. Students and their advisors will be informed in writing that the student has been placed on academic probation. If the student achieves at least a 2.0 GPA during the subsequent semester(s) of enrollment but still does not achieve the required cumulative grade point average, he/she continues on probation until that requirement is satisfied. (Summer session is equivalent to one semester.) Any student who is on academic probation and transfers from one department or division to another will continue to be on probation in the new program until the probationary terms are met. Students are encouraged to contact their advisor for academic assistance.
Academic Suspension - Students who fail to achieve at least a 2.0 grade point average for each of the subsequent semesters while on probation will be placed on academic suspension. Students who are suspended will not be readmitted until a lapse of one regular semester has occurred. (Summer session does not apply in this case.)
Students who choose to appeal their academic suspension may do so by submitting compelling evidence to the student academic review team. Students may pick up the academic suspension appeal form in the Records office, Haverty Hall, Room 106.
Transfer Students on Probation/Suspension - Transfer students who are suspended from other institutions for scholastic reasons may be considered for enrollment in a career or technical program if all other conditions are acceptable. Transfer students who are suspended from other institutions will not be permitted to enroll in liberal arts programs until the same conditions are met as the suspending institution requires for reinstatement.
Students on Probation or on Suspension from Other Colleges
Transfer students suspended from other institutions will not be permitted to enroll in the liberal arts programs until the same conditions are met as the suspending institution would demand to reinstate the students. Students who are suspended for scholastic reasons may be considered for enrollment in the career programs if all other conditions are acceptable.
Absences
Students are required to attend regularly all classes and shops for which they are scheduled. In general, absences are excused only when due to illness or official representation of the college. For more detailed information concerning this matter, the student should consult the general regulations which will be found in the Student Guide or department policies. For more information, see Attendance Policy.
Withdrawing from College
| A student who desires to withdraw from college before the end of a semester must originate a request and obtain a withdrawal slip from the division academic counselor before the first day of final exams.
